Jelly Fry publicity characters Kozenichan and Furabee. These characters were created to promote Gyoda City’s local foods, jelly fry and Gyoda fry, which trace their roots to vegetable buns introduced from China during the Russo-Japanese War. Kozenichan handles jelly fry publicity, while Furabee handles Gyoda fry publicity. Gyoda’s “fry” is not a deep-fried food but a griddled dish cooked on a hot plate, said to be similar to okonomiyaki, and many shops serving fry can apparently be found in the city.
