Honjo City mascot character Hanipon. This boy character was created with the “smiling shield-bearing haniwa” excavated from a local archaeological site as its motif and was born on August 28 (haniwa). Apparently, he traveled through time from 1,400 years ago to bring smiles to everyone. He is sometimes mistaken for a rhinoceros beetle, but he is active in helping everyone learn about his beloved Honjo City, and it is said that touching Hanipon makes people smile!
