Iwate tourism support characters Wanko Kyodai. “Sobacchi” (center): main character/wanko soba. “Kokucchi” (upper left): Ninohe, Kuji, and northern prefecture area/millet. “Omocchi” (lower right): Hiraizumi, Hanamaki, Tono, and southern prefecture area/zunda mochi. “Tofucchi” (upper right): Morioka, Hachimantai, and central prefecture area/tofu. “Unicchi” (lower left): Miyako, Kamaishi, Ofunato, and southern coastal area/sea urchin rice bowl. Each carries a specialty from one of the five areas on its lacquerware headpiece. They appear at many events while introducing Iwate events and cuisine on their blog.
