Nagaoka Junior Chamber character Mamerin. Born from a sudden mutation in edamame, this character is 23 years old in bean years. Niigata Prefecture has Japan's largest edamame cultivation area, and Nagaoka City is said to produce edamame with excellent flavor and aroma. Mamerin was created to raise awareness of Nagaoka City's edamame, foster affection for it, and share Nagaoka City's appeal nationwide. Mamerin is active by appearing at local events while sharing information on edamame grown in Nagaoka City, Nagaoka vegetables, and Nagaoka City's attractions on Facebook.
