Aoki Village's mascot character, Aokinoko, is inspired by mushrooms, as Aoki Village is a noted producer of high-quality mushrooms. He wears a happi coat bearing the words Tazawa Hot Spring and Kutsukake Hot Spring. After a nationwide call for entries, he was selected by a residents' vote and debuted in November 2011. He is active at events and elsewhere promoting Aoki Village as a temporary tourism staff member.
