Yuu-chan was created as the mascot character for promoting universal design after a mascot was solicited for a universal design conference held in December 2012. She is based on the mudskipper that inhabits the Ariake Sea and has “UD,” for universal design, written on her chest. She appears at events in the prefecture as a PR character promoting the creation of easy-to-use products and comfortable towns that many people can use and live in, transcending differences in gender, disability, nationality, and more.
