Roadside Station Shimotsuke character Kanpi-kun was born in 2011 in Shimotsuke City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan's leading producer of kanpyō. He is modeled on the fukube, the fruit of the bottle gourd used as the raw material for kanpyō. He wears bottle-gourd leaves on his head and also became a Shimotsuke City tourism ambassador, appearing at events inside and outside the city while introducing Shimotsuke City's good points. The source says “bents” for events.
