Kumejima mascot character Kumin. Since the time of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Kumejima has been considered the most beautiful island in Ryukyu and was called “the island of Kumi”; this is one origin of Kumejima's name. She is a girl who is a Kumejima firefly, a species unique to the island, and wears Kumejima Tsumugi, a textile whose production techniques have been designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan. Wearing a hair ornament of Kume Beni, a camellia unique to the island, she energetically promotes this beautiful island!
