Hida Kamioka Hatsukonpira Evening Festival PR character Hida no Konpeikun. He is a boy born by combining a daruma and a penguin to promote the Hida Kamioka Hatsukonpira Evening Festival, held every February to pray for business prosperity and family safety. Since a penguin is a bird that cannot fly, it represents “not flying, therefore not going bankrupt.” The daruma represents the auspicious idea of “falling seven times and rising eight,” or getting back up after falling. His name was selected from more than 700 entries, and he mainly appears at events in Takayama City to promote the festival.
