Makubetsu Town mascot Pao-kun is modeled on the Naumann elephant excavated in the former Churui Village in Showa 44. Together with his partner Kumagera-kun, he plays park golf, which originated in Makubetsu Town, and appears at events throughout Hokkaido to promote Makubetsu Town.
