Asappy is Asahikawa City's symbolic character. Asappy transformed from a spotted seal into a polar bear to become Asahikawa's hero. Asahikawa ramen noodles flutter from the arms like a cape, while a shirt depicting the Daisetsuzan mountain range and boots bought at the Asahikawa Winter Festival express the city's attractions. Asappy appears at events in various places and in commercials, among other activities.
