The official character of the Dekansho Festival, Dekabo. The Dekansho Festival is a Bon dance festival held around Sasayama Castle every year on August 15 and 16, where people perform the Dekansho dance to the folk song Dekansho-bushi. Dekabo was created with Tamba black soybeans as his motif; they grew in fields near the venue while listening to the Dekansho Festival. He helps enliven and promote the festival, and there is reportedly also a stone statue of him in town.
