Caffy is Shiga Prefecture's image character. He was created in 2008 as the mascot character for Sporec Shiga 2008, with the endemic Lake Biwa giant catfish as his motif. He was named after catfish are called catfish in English. He conducts PR activities to revitalize Shiga Prefecture through sports.
