Lake Toya Onsen character. Tōron-kun was born as one of the selected public submissions modeled on the dragon, the guardian deity of Lake Toya, as part of the 200th-anniversary festival held when the former Abuta Town celebrated 200 years since its founding. His name was also selected through a public competition the following year. Because many tourists visit from Asia, he was given the Eastern-style name Tōron-kun.
