Gunma-chan, Director of the Gunma Prefecture Publicity Department, was born in 1994 as Yuma-chan, the character for a sports event. In 2008, the name was changed to Gunma-chan to make it clear that the character was the mascot of Gunma Prefecture. Gunma-chan works hard to promote Gunma Prefecture by participating in many events and won first place at the Yuru-chara Grand Prix in 2014, the Year of the Horse!
