Hidaka City mascot characters Kurikka and Kurippi were conceived in 2009, after which their names were solicited from residents and decided by a vote among elementary school students in the city. They represent the common kingfisher, the city's bird, and chestnuts, its specialty product. The blue one is Kurikka, and the orange one is Kurippi. They appear at many events and work actively so that Hidaka City will be a lively and happy city.
