Yaizu City official character, Yaichan. This character was created in 2009 to commemorate the 2008 merger of Oigawa Town and Yaizu City. Since Yaizu City has long been known for its thriving bonito fishing, Yaichan is inspired by a bonito and carries Oigawa Town's specialty, Amaela tomatoes. Yaichan became Yaizu City's official character in 2013 and is active in promoting Yaizu City through television appearances as well as events.
