Higashi-Chichibu Village mascot character Washinochan was born in 2010 in Higashi-Chichibu Village, a production area for Hosokawa-shi, handmade washi paper with more than 1,300 years of history. The face is inspired by washi paper, while the kimono sash represents the Tsukigawa River flowing through the village, and the sash ornament is the village emblem. Washinochan lives in the village of washi and works hard to promote Higashi-Chichibu Village!
