The Walkathon Walrus Walkie

“I’m Walkie. I was born in the Arctic on October 5, 2013. But unlike my family and fellow walruses, I was born unable to swim. After my mom and dad realized I couldn’t swim, they spent days crying because they were convinced I would surely be eaten by a polar bear. But I never gave up. So I said to my big brother, ‘If I really can’t swim, I’ll train myself to walk!!’ My big brother seemed to think it was absolutely impossible, but I trained intensely by myself for many months. Through persistent effort, I became the only walking walrus in the world. Then I kept walking farther and farther south because I had to escape the territory of my natural enemy, the polar bear. On May 18, 2014, I happened to arrive at a venue where a fun event called Chubu Walkathon was being held. Everyone there was so warm that, because of my extraordinary walking ability and all my hard work, they welcomed me as Walkie, the Walkathon Walrus, the Walkathon mascot. My name is Walkie, and I’m the only walking walrus in the world!”
