Kumagaya City mascot character Nyaozane was born in 2008 to encourage interest in “community development through collaboration between citizens and the administration.” A life-sized Nyaozane is reportedly displayed on the first floor of City Hall. In July 2011, Nyaozane was promoted from “Chief for Cheerfully Lifting Kumagaya” to mascot character, and is active in promoting Kumagaya City by appearing not only at events but also on merchandise.
