Chiba Prefecture mascot character Chīban-kun was born in 2007 as the character for the National Sports Festival. Because his popularity continued afterward, he became Chiba Prefecture's mascot character in 2011. He appears at events in various places to energize Chiba Prefecture, and his body glows red with “courage and passion, especially when confronting the unknown.” Seen from the side, Chīban-kun is said to have the shape of Chiba Prefecture!
