Komeru-kun is the image character of JA Sakai City. He was born in November in a rice field in the city. His name comes from kome, meaning rice, and komeru, meaning to put in love or effort. Komeru-kun also has exercises named after him, and attends agricultural-product-related events to promote the area's rice and agricultural products.
