Mikkusu, the officially recognized mascot character of the Matsue Kyōmise Shopping District, was created to promote the shopping district and Matsue City. Although apparently sometimes mistaken for a cat or other animal, Mikkusu is said to be a male hamster. A large heart is designed on the rear. Mikkusu works actively by sharing and promoting the area’s appeal and information on Twitter and elsewhere and going to events around the country.
