Momijin, the officially recognized character of Shinjō District in Mihama Town, is a deer deity who usually lives in the mountains of Mihama Town. In kanji, the name is apparently written “紅葉神.” Momijin carries a staff topped with a specialty sweet potato and wears a tengu mask around the waist. While watching over Mihama Town’s nature and people, Momijin is said to come down from the mountains whenever finding festivals or other events where “many smiles gather.”
