Aosā, Shima City’s public-relations character, was born from “Shima’s beautiful sea” and is modeled on aonori seaweed, for which Shima City has Japan’s largest production volume. Since pearl cultivation also flourishes in Shima City’s Ago Bay, a pearl shines on Aosā’s head. Aosā works hard at events around the country to promote Shima City and encourage more people to learn about it and visit.
