San’in Kaigan Geopark promotion character Jion-kun was created in Heisei 23 after designs were solicited nationwide and one entry was selected, with the goal of promoting “people and town development that fosters attachment to one’s hometown.” He expresses the attractions of Kami Town and the San’in Kaigan Geopark, including abundant nature, terraced rice fields, strata, and the earth, with his whole body. He catches information about the town with the horns on his head and shares it with everyone.
