Watari Town Tourism Promotion Section Chief Watari-n is a boy born on January 15, 1568, modeled on Date Shigenari, the first lord of Watari. His helmet is decorated with strawberries, a specialty of the town, and sasanqua, the town flower. He was selected through a residents’ vote from among submitted designs and unveiled in March 2014. He works hard to “promote the town bravely and boldly at any time.”
