Ogasawara Village Tourism Bureau Director of Publicity Ogajirō is a father humpback whale born and raised in Ogasawara. He was born on June 26, 1968, the day the Ogasawara Islands were returned from the United States to Japan. He looks a little rough around the edges but is actually very kind, and apparently wears sunglasses to protect his eyes from Ogasawara's strong ultraviolet rays. He appears at many events both in Ogasawara and on the mainland to promote tourism in Ogasawara!
