Kurume City image character Kuruppa. A kappa character born in the Chikugo River that flows through Kurume City, Kuruppa’s name was selected from 6,000 submissions. It apparently expresses wishes for people to “come to Kurume” and for “Kurume to suddenly brighten up.” Kuruppa became the Kirari Kurume promotion section chief to help more people learn about and like Kurume City, and promotes the city’s appeal by appearing at many events.
