Sapporo City Teine Ward mascot character Teinu was discovered on Mount Teine in 1989. Teinu is a dog character with a head shaped like a hand. It apparently developed a red nose after eating too much of its favorite watermelon, a specialty of Teine Ward. Although it dislikes heat, Teinu appears mainly at events within the ward and works energetically to promote Teine Ward!
