Takechama, Asaminami Ward Gion’s official character, is a boy created in 2008 after being selected from submitted designs based on legends remaining on Mount Takeda in the Gion area. His large head, modeled after a tea kettle, is his distinctive feature. He enjoys preparing tea and works hard to promote the Gion area by participating in events.
