Komatsushima City tourism PR mascot character Komapon. He is based on the tanuki from the legendary Kintoki Tanuki battle that took place in Tokushima Prefecture during the Edo period, and wears armor inspired by Minamoto no Yoshitsune. His nickname was selected from entries solicited from sixth-grade students at elementary schools in the city and decided in 2012. Carrying a chikuwa, a Komatsushima specialty, he appears at various events while sharing local information on Facebook and elsewhere.
