An unofficial mascot of Ibaraki Prefecture, Nebaaru-kun is a natto fairy born from a soybean father and a natto-bacteria mother “to spread natto to people around the world.” He is apparently persistent and hard-working but easily discouraged, and is said to stretch when he is happy. He appears on television and at many events so that more people will come to like natto.
