Kiyokuma was created as the mascot of the Kumamoto City Government-Designated City Promotion Council and later became the mascot of the Kumamoto Castle Marathon. Kiyokuma is an apprentice samurai who admires Lord Kato Kiyomasa and whose favorite food is ikinari dango. Kiyokuma apparently has a side that is a sore loser but a crybaby, and appears at many events to promote the marathon and Kumamoto.
