Takenokoman is the mascot character of the Santo Community Development Association. Since the Santo district of Wakayama City is known for bamboo shoots, the character was created in the image of a bamboo shoot. Takenokoman usually grows bamboo shoots and mandarins deep in the mountains of the Santo district, while appearing at events in and outside Wakayama City to promote the Santo district.
