Shugen-kun was created as the yuru-chara of Mayasan Tenjoji Temple, the temple where the custom of presenting abdominal bands for safe childbirth originated. He is a young boy of the tengu clan training to become a practitioner. He aims to become a master of the bow in the future and appears at tourism events, university festivals, and other occasions.
