Ayabe City mascot character Mayupī. Mayupī was created in Heisei 2 (1990) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the city's establishment, and the name was selected from entries submitted by elementary and middle school students in the city. Mayupī represents Ayabe City as a peaceful city that was the first in Japan to declare itself a World Federalist City, the circle of its citizens, and the city that developed through sericulture.
