Motomiya City image character Mayumi-chan was born when the wishes of citizens hoping for earthquake recovery gathered around a mayumi tree. Inspired by the fruit of the mayumi tree, Mayumi-chan appears at events and elsewhere to enliven "Motomiya, the navel town of Fukushima" and works hard. In 2014, Mayumi-chan announced a marriage to Appī of Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture, and in November 2015 their child Ayumi was born, allowing Mayumi-chan to work for Ageo City as well as Motomiya City.
